FAQ

Unique Health Considerations

Kenora,  like much of Canada has deer legged ticks that carry lyme disease. More information on lyme disease and prevention.

Kenora also has a fungus in the soil (Blastomyces dermatitidis) in some areas that can cause symptoms ranging from subclinical (minimal) infection up to chronic pneumonia. It is rare in humans but more common in dogs because it is soil born. It is in the Lake of the Woods watershed, so it it is also found in the Seine River, the Whiteshell and other parts of Manitoba, but is important to be aware of because it can present as bacterial as opposed to fungal.  Prompt treatment is important as it can be deadly for dogs. More information here.

Pets

Dogs are permitted to stay in the cabins.  All other types of pets are not. Dogs must be well-behaved, reasonably quiet and on-leash at all times when outside. Dogs must be kept off the furniture and cleaned up after both inside and out.  Dogs must not be left alone in the cabins or on the porch unless kenneled. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in additional charges.  Also please consider when deciding whether to bring your dog, that we have a German Shepherd/ Collie cross named Austin and a Boxer mix named Dandelion who are not leashed and are very friendly to both people and other dogs. If your dog does not respond well to friendly dogs, please do not bring it.

Motor Boats

We do not have a boat launch on-site.  Part of what drew us to Mink Bay was the quiet body of water with very few motorized boats and how ideal it is for human-powered recreation and we hope our guests will take the time to get out on the water with a canoe, kayak or stand-up paddle board and discover what it has to offer.  If you do wish to bring a motorized boat to use elsewhere you may park it in our upper parking lot.  There are several boat launches nearby which will get you into either Lake of the Woods or the Winnipeg River.
